Our counselling is aimed at students at the University of Bremen, Bremen University of Applied Sciences, HfK Bremen and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. This also includes enrolled doctoral students and international students in preparatory studies.
Our counselling services are free of charge. It is a service offered by the Studierendenwerk Bremen.

The waiting time for an appointment varies according to current demand. It is usually 4-6 weeks. In urgent cases, consultation appointments are held at short notice.
The scope of counselling can vary from person to person, depending on the identified problem and the objective. Referrals to a psychotherapist in private practice. We discuss this with the student during the counselling process.

One hour's time and your own notes if required. Nothing else is required, not even a health insurance card.
The first consultation is about getting to know each other and understanding the concerns of the consultation. It is a structured conversation that leaves enough room for questions. We take around 50 minutes for regular appointments. Short-term consultation appointments are shorter and focus on the acute stress and, if necessary, coping steps.
Advice is provided by employees based on internal distribution and availability.
This is sometimes not so easy to assess on your own. There are a number of demands in the study phase of life, which can make it feel stressful and even crisis-ridden at times. Our advice is often about providing support. What should be better understood? What resources can be activated? We look at this together.
Counselling in the PBS cannot replace psychotherapy. However, it often helps to prepare for psychotherapy. The counselling sessions can also have a stabilizing effect until then.

Only employees of the Psychological Counselling Center with whom there is direct contact (secretariat, counsellor) have knowledge of a visit. Counselling is also subject to confidentiality. The University of Bremen and the universities will not be informed, nor will the health insurance company.
The counselling center is open for personal and study-related concerns of various kinds and tries to provide immediate support. If there is a more suitable contact point for your topic, we will put you in touch with the right contact person if possible.
