Sustainability

Since May 2023, Studierendenwerk Bremen has had a climate protection manager funded by the National Climate Protection Initiative.

National Climate Protection Initiative
Since 2008, the Federal Ministry for the Environment has been initiating and funding numerous projects that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Its programs and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities: from the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment support measures. This diversity is a guarantee for good ideas. The National Climate Initiative helps to anchor climate protection on the ground. It benefits consumers as well as companies, local authorities and educational institutions.

Here are some of our climate protection and sustainability projects:

Our canteens are BIO-certified [DE-ÖKO-039] and use:

We largely avoid food waste through demand-oriented production and further processing. We use state-of-the-art appliances with energy savings of up to 40% compared to conventional appliances.

We are gradually switching to LED lighting in our residential complexes. In the Neustadt residential complex, a resource-saving combined heat and power plant is in use.

In our administration, externally ordered print products are produced on recycled paper and with CO₂ offsetting wherever possible. Our IT is increasingly using used/refurbished hardware in all departments and areas of the Studierendenwerk.

The creation of this page is funded as part of the project KSI Climate Protection Management - Creation of an Integrated Climate Protection Concept for the Studierendenwerk Bremen (initial project limited until 28.02.2025). Funding reference: 67K22739 (funding recipient: Studierendenwerk Bremen). The aim of the project is to create an integrated climate protection concept for the Studierendenwerk Bremen.
